Derived from Mountain High Maps, Digital Wisdom used 3D animation applications to wrap a flat world map on to a spherical wireframe and generate a series of rotating globes. The Animated Globes series is primarily intended to be part of Multimedia CD-ROM or Software applications due to large file sizes. With further manipulation using GIF Animation software, globe sequences appropriately sized for Web Animation can be derived. As part of the Animations package, the original texture maps are supplied for clients to customize and render their own style of rotating globe. Pre-rendered styles in 9 variations offer physical and political, solid ocean fill and ocean floor relief, cloudy or clear sky, blue, silver or black sea options to give a wide choice of styles.
Colorized globes are presented in a variety of animations, showing revolving globes, fly-pasts and other sequences using QuickTime for Macintosh, QuickTime .MOV files and .AVI Video for Windows files.
In the table of 38 animated globes listed below, "fps" refers to frames per second and "size" refers to QuickTime view screen size in pixels, time of sequence in seconds, file size in megabytes, and color variations. Click on Style letter to view the texture and appearance of the globe animation (single frame).
